Career break

Took a deliberate career break to explore personal interests, engage in extensive travel, and prioritise my mental health. This period fostered adaptability, cultural awareness, and a resilient mindset, the experiences gained have enriched my perspective and contributed to my readiness to excel in new challenges. The tavel included a period of time doing charity work at a school in my fathers birth place of Uganda, a few months moving around New Zealand in a campervan, and an extended trip seeing the wildlife of Costa Rica.

Application Engineer

Oxford Technical Solutions

  • Led a 6-member team in conceptualising, designing, and producing a bespoke peice of software, improving the ease and speed of car testing for a major Japanese automotive OEM. The contemporary design inspired the company to emulate and revamped existing user interfaces of other applications, demonstrating innovation and a forward-thinking design perspective.
  • Collaborated with cross-functional teams to build and improve software in C# leveraging the WPF framework and .NET for a new avenue of business for the company. Developed a robust data processing application, complemented by a command-line application, to efficiently handle and process large datasets, showcasing strong technical proficiency and problem-solving skills.
  • Executed embedded code implementation for a novel 16-core IMU, resulting in the development of a cost-effective and compact new product.
  • Developed a prototype for the company's inaugural cross-platform application, supporting Android, iOS, and Windows in Xamarin.
  • Championed the introduction and implementation of CI/CD at the company, improving production and reducing development errors.
  • Managed the Git repositories for the entire company, implementing new workflows and conducting training sessions, resulting in enhanced collaboration between departments and improved code quality.
  • Contributed within a diverse set of software workflows, collaborating on projects ranging from a traditional waterfall process to agile development methodologies including scrum, kanban, and lean. Showcasing adaptability and proficiency in various software development approaches.

Iterative Learning Control for a Multi-Axis Robot
A yearlong third-year individual project on the design, simulation and analysis of iterative learning control for a multi-axis gantry robot. The project looked at a gantry robot repeatedly undergoing a pick-and-place routine and studying different control methods.
Looking at the effects of added initial starting error of each routine and long-term drift of the control. The whole project was simulated on MATLAB using Simulink.
Biologically inspired Dual-Actuator Wave Robot
The brief was to design and develop a novel robot based on biology, as a group we decided to make a robot which propels itself with a wave-like motion similar to an eel. My role was the mechanics of the tails, where the modelling was done in SolidWorks and fast prototyping techniques were used such as 3D printing and laser cutting. Additionally, as part of the module assessment, I created a short video of the completed project which is shown below.

Masters group design project of an intelligent rover
My final year group project was to build an intelligent race car which could complete an unknown track in the fastest possible time. To compete in Grenoble, France the rover had to comply with a strict set of rules and guides outlined by the NXP cup specifications.
As well as leading the team, I undertook the task of writing the embedded control code (C and C++) which converted the visual data camera into the signals for steering and motors. We entered two different cars with slight differences in Grenoble but unfortunately placed outside the medals in the stiff competition.

Interests

Apart from being an engineer, I enjoy good food and good company. In the winter, I am an avid skier and try to make sure I go every year. During the warmer months, I enjoy spending time outside especially water activities like kayaking or sailing. When indoors, I love to cook and I can be found on one of many video games or doing something creative like painting.
